We endeavor to provide you with very safe, comfortable and personal service. Your captain is U.S. Coast Guard licensed, with
39 years local residency and experience in Alaska waters. Born in the San Francisco Bay area captain Robert Ward spent many days fishing with his father, mother, and brothers in the family runabout. Coming from a Naval family the sea was running in his veins way before he could "splice a yarn" and all along the Pacific coast if it was wet he has sailed, swam, fished, or fell in it. Captain Robert "Bob" Ward didn't start out as a captain, just a recruit in the U. S. Naval Sea Cadets at the young age of 11 years.
During his youth he spent many days aboard
Naval ships of all sizes performing regular watch duties, polishing his share of brass, swabbing decks, and being a regular member of the crew including being a member of a 5 inch gun crew. On weekends he crewed aboard destroyers, mine sweepers, and a few aircraft carriers learning everything he could about seamanship and the U. S. Naval mission of keeping peace in the world. At the age of 14 he completed "Boot Camp" at Treasure Island and then once out of high school he went into active duty to Kodiak, Alaska as a radioman.
It was after his tour in Kodiak that the navy lost him, his wife found him and he fell in love with Alaska once and for ever. Fishing commercially around Kodiak for Salmon and halibut in the late 60's and early 70's his respect for the waters of the North Pacific were fine tuned, providing him the education he practices now. Bob has fished for halibut locally since 1979 operating his own boat and finally moving into chartering in 1987. In 1992 he bought his current boat, a 1976 Bertram, which plys these waters with a grace that only Bertrams have. The captain's only daughter fished with him for 11 of her 32 years giving him the time to instill that timeless knowledge that life at sea gives one. Like his father passed to him, Bob has passed to his daughter the romance and humility the sea provides and a love unending. |
